Today, resigning from my job, I realised that employers don't care about you. You are in a financial relationship with your employer whereby your work is exchanged for money. You working 150% extra hard makes a tiny dent in the whole scheme of things.
I feel almost like a factory worker. You work in a factory and make shirts 250% faster than everyone else and are significantly more productive.
But it doesn't matter. Because there are hundreds of factory workers, and many more willing to take your job. You giving it your best may or may not go noticed. Depends if your manager likes you or hates you.
Everyone is replaceable. I hate to say these words because I hated to believe they were true, but today I realise they are in fact true. All that hard work, blood, sweat, tears, all for nothing. Only I will ever know what good I did, and those colleagues whom I worked with. But not my direct manager.
I am not sure how to feel. On the one hand I am relieved from leaving such a toxic, hostile work environment. On the other I feel deeply betrayed and hurt. Years of hard work, and not even a single thank you or acknowledgement of my work.
I always used to look down and laugh at this subreddit but now I understand.
