Employers want you to code as your hobby when they hire you, and then turn around once you’re hired and want to claim you can’t code on your own time because they own the IP.

It's common for companies to look for and encourage 'personal projects' when they are interviewing you. But then all of sudden once you're hired those personal projects are now 'conflicts of interest' and 'intellectual property'.
