Employment should come with asset security.

During covid I lost everything, my car was repo’d, my landlord evicted me, my cards were frozen and my credit score dropped from 690 to less than 500. I worked for CircleK, there was a 3 month period where I wasn’t paid as a result of some miscommunication between the bank and payroll and my stores owner, idk but it was shit. Then when I went to a new company I ended up catching covid and had to take 2 months unpaid. With this I just ended up losing everything, I’m an immigrant as well so I had to make a near thousand dollar payment to renew my permanent residency card, during which time I got pulled over for DWL because I couldn’t renew my license since my green card was in the process of getting renewed and the DMV refused to work with me despite a recipient proving that…

That’s irrelevant for the most part but the point is that while I was fighting for my checks from my old employer and being at home sick I was also paying lawyers to prevent myself from getting a criminal record, as an immigrant that is something I cannot afford.

I don’t understand how companies can fuck you so hard and ultimately you’re responsible for the results of their exploitation. If they put you in a position where you literally can not pay your bill as a result of their mismanagement or policies regarding sick pay, they should be a share of legal responsibility, perhaps enforced by a sort of employer credit score which will affect a companies taxes and interest rates
