Two years ago, one of my cats was diagnosed with Diabetes. The vet visit plus the insulin cost me 70$. When insulin didn’t do the trick, her (Storm’s) last day cost me 40$. She was so far gone she didn’t even need the second shot but they gave it anyways.
Fast forward to today. My other cat, Zoey, might be having a dental issue. She’s having a hard time chewing, and excessive thick salivation. I just called and they said an appointment will run $890-$1300. Just for an exam. Wtf.
I make decent money but I’m having a hard time justifying this because I switched her to wet food and she has no problem with that.
How can people afford to treat their pets (aka best friends) right? How can people afford an 11X increase?
Edit: I called another clinic and got a dental exam for my cat for 42$. I called the original clinic back and made sure I heard them right. I did. However, they made a mistake. They quoted me for a surgery and not an exam. They sounded overwhelmed and now I feel bad. They got me a quicker appointment with better continuity of care for 7$ more. I’d like to apologize to anyone who read this. I’m so used to prices on everything going up i flipped out.
