I'm gonna start with some background. Sorry in advance for any spelling errors. English is my second language and I'm on mobile and long story.
I started studying civil Engineering in the Second half of 2020. An year later, I tried to sell a notebook I was not using anymore and this chick asked If I could Go to her Workplace for her Boss aprove the buy, since the Company was the one paying. Since It was near home, I agreed.
While I waited for them to decide If my notebook was good enough, the HR Guy started talking with me (small Company, the chick was sharing the room with him and some other emploees). He asked what I was studying and I answered. He said that maybe they'll open a internship position in my area and asked for my resumee.
Luckly I had a digital version on my phone, so I sent him right away.
A month later same HR Guy asks me If I could be there for an Interview. Almost Said “hell yeah”, but an “yes, sir” came out. In the Interview (after 3h wainting past the apointment) they said I would be like an assistant to THE GUY of the Company (It was a construction Company). THE GUY was an old Man, who strugles with tecnology but was a genious in construction. I said I could do It and started right away even though I never looked for this job in the First place.
The sht went Crazy when, two weeks after THE GUY went on forced vacation (he had acumulated a Lot of vacation time and in Brazil it's against work laws). And that was my hell begining.
You see, I was like his personal assistant. When he was gone, I was no longer THE GUY's assistant. I became everyone's btch. Not only I was the New employee. I was the new INTERN employee. Needless to say that I became involved in almost every department. They also strongly advised me to assume the Billings department. An intern. With several responsabilities. Buying everything from toilet paper to trucks of sand and concrete.
Also, the Company decided to invest in a quality Seal. I was the one to do the heavy work. Digitalizing and cataloging every Bill and contract to the quality team. I was the first one in, last one out. Four people had the keys to the building and only 2 the alarm code. Now I had both. Until…
My Second paycheck came. Way bigger than the First, obviously. I was supose to work from 8am to 3pm. I had to leave at 5pm at least to complete the daily tasks. 3h of extra pay everyday does wonders right? Wrong.
My Boss was pissed because I was getting this amount of overtime and told me to leave on the time we initialy agreed. I tried to convince him otherwise, but he wouldn't budge.
The next day I was even a little relieved that I was leaving on time. It went away fast. THE GUY had returned from his vacation in all his glory.
He Saw me, I saw him, he pointed to his office (used to be our office before vacation). He calls every project chief and me to a Meeting. He says all the things he would implement while I was panicking. You see… I Just had my hours cut and needed to make 10 hour job fit into 6, combining billing, quality and some project supervision. Now I have assisting THE GUY back in the list. I rushed to my Boss office to beg him to reconsider the hours or remove some responsability. Told him It simply wasn't humanly possible. I got a big NO.
So I did what I was told. Rushed what I could, what I couldn't would be tomorrow problem.
They were furious I couldn't deliver anymore. When they tried to fire me, I pulled my resignation letter from my purse. Just wouldn't give them the satisfaction.
