Experience and education count for nothing

After six interview with five people I was told there’s no leverage for me to negotiate my salary. I was contacted by a recruiter for the position and agreed to review the position. When they offered a weak flat rate and then proceeded to ask what it would take for me to leave my current role. My counter offer was met with “you need to prove yourself first”. An MBA and 10 years industry experience count for nothing. I was told “sometimes pay cuts are the only way to move up” 🫠
