So the current Federal Minimum Wage is set at $7.25 per hour. We are currently in the longest stretch since it has last been raised since it was first instituted in 1939. It has been the same $7.25 per hour since 2009. That means we are on our 14th year without an increase. I can't of anyplace in America where $7.25 can support anyone to meet even their most basic of needs. I counted 20 states where the state minimum wage is the same as the current $7.25 Federal Minimum wage. Almost all of these states are Republican states.
Why doesn't this get more attention? I can't imagine that there would even be a debate that we are long overdue for an increase in the Federal Minimum wage. The most ironic part of this is that most of the politicians and voters who are against raising the minimum wage are in some of the poorest states in the nation.
