Feel like the recession has ulterior motives

I know that inflation and such was out of control. But am I the only one who thinks that there's more to the recession than just controlling that? During the 2009 recession, everyone became so afraid of losing their job the companies had all the power and were able to exploit us more easily. I watched my dad, who is a facility manager for a bank, go from managing about 15 branches to 60 in a year. No raise, no increase in anything except his workload. Now that we've had the great resignation and are starting to claw back some power from these corporations, I can't help but feel the timing of this recession was designed in such a way to stop these movements and continue to leave us hungry and desperate, and therefore easier to control. Thoughts? Maybe I'm just a crazy conspiracy theorist lol.
