Unexpectedly got laid off from my office job and have had trouble finding another. With the bills piling up, had to put my ego aside and respond to a listing to work as a tanning salon manager since I worked in a few salons when I was young. During the interview, they were practically begging me, saying they “needed a manager like two weeks ago”. The hiring manager said the job was mine and I just needed to speak with the DM out of formality which would be the following day because they wanted me working within the week (this was Tuesday morning, today is Friday).
Finally I texted the person who initially set up my interview because I’m not chasing a tanning salon manager all over the city, this is ridiculous. Then they start acting like they don’t even know what position I applied for, rambling about availability- what? I applied and interviewed for the management position that was posted and that you reached out to me for. What’s the “confusion” (verbatim!)?
Apparently, after literally offering the job to someone, they decided to hire from within which is normal and fine. But maybe call the candidate and let them know you aren’t moving forward anymore instead of ghosting them or not returning the message they left with corporate, right?
As if I care that I won’t be working at a tanning salon. I’m more insulted that this person kept pushing a lower position on me as if it were anywhere near comparable, and as if it was what I applied for in the first place. Maybe I’m being stuck up, I know I should appreciate any job offer, but this just feels insulting honestly.
