feeling guilty for calling out

I work as a cashier/cook in a sub shop. It's a small business with a small staff. We get very busy, so when one person is nonfunctional, we all feel it. Today I called out. I'm feeling sick to my stomach, so by no means is this a day off, I cannot work or relax in this condition. I text my boss letting him know. He responds with “as short staffed as we are today… feel better.” I reply to him “if it were up to me, I'd be there all the way.” Now I'm feeling very guilty. If it were up to me, I'd be making money and goofing off with my coworkers, but instead I'm shamefully bedridden. As if I'm the person who designed a shit schedule that didn't account for backfires. Please. This sucks.
