Feeling kind of conflicted about using sick pay as supplemental income

So I am employed by a contracting company that's basically used as a way for other companies to hire us as contractors rather than employees. My actual job hasn't been asking me to come in as often lately so I'm…very broke. I asked my employer if I can use sick pay as extra money and they said that should be fine, so I'm getting 20 hours of sick pay (which is all the hours I currently have). It's like on one hand I'm relieved that I at least have that as an emergency option, but also it sucks that I have to use my sick pay — 1 hour earned with every 30 hours worked — just to pay my bills. I should not have to do that. First of all I should be able to depend on my job to provide a living wage, and I should have PTO…
