Ok so the title may sound a little harsh but this is basically the situation. I am 25 (M) and have moved to a new country to pursue a project engineer job. One thing I came to realise once I moved was that the actual job is similar to what was outlined in the description, but the hours I’m working are well above what’s been offered in the contract.
My contract states I should only work 8:30-5 but most days I am working 7:30-6pm (only a 60k salary) (AUD). Not only this, the management style is fu*ked and when I say this I truly mean it. They are able to get away with treating their employees like utter trash, and not offering them the chance to fight their rights (do as we say type of thing). I’ve noted the company turnover rate is insanely high, other colleagues in the workplace see this too. While saying that the company is claiming to be rapidly expanding to try and entice new graduates, but during my whole time here more people have left than joined. Our dev team has dropped from 6 seniors to only 1.
The company is not able to retain employees at all. It seems like the strategy is to hire people, work them to their utter death and let go of them once they are completely burnt out. They seem to hire people who aren’t the best at standing up for themselves and they take the abuse because they have a lot to lose (a lot of people are recruited from overseas).
Basically I have a performance review coming up and I know they’re gonna shit on me because that’s the ethic, they want to push you to do more all the time. How do I address these issues without sounding rude or like im attacking them? I want this to work but all the flags are red and everything is telling me to leave the company.
