Finally quit my shitty job :)

So for the last 10 years I have been working at the security in Amsterdam airport(Schiphol airport). The airport has to hold a public tender every 4/5 years where different security company’s compete for eachother to try and win the different contracts. What happens is that security company’s offer themselves as cheap as possible resulting in shittier working conditions for employees since thats where they will try to save money. The last tender was in 2020 and the company I worked at for 8 years lost 1 of the 2 contracts it had resulting in me and a lot of others having to switch company’s. A lot of people where affected by this to another level as wel. For example couples that worked together at the same company where 1 could stay and one was forced to switch where their entire personal life had to readjust etc.. some had certain agreements with their previous employers like not working on any fridays etc, that got ignored by my new employer.

For me personally I went from 2 weekends free in a month to 1 weekend every month, sometimes working 6 weekends in a row, I used to have 2 different shifts that I worked that started at one time(morning, afternoon), this increased to 8 different times to start at and they were different almost each day. Vacation was hardly possible and if there was a family emergency they would force me to stay at work till I finally had a day off. My working conditions before I had to switch company’s was a 7/10 and dropped to a 2/10. A lot of people got kicked out during covid aswell and a lot of others are quitting their jobs together with me these days. If you google Schiphol or search it on twitter you can see the enormous queues this is creating and the result of the airport being a greedy whore. I now found a new job where I will receive more pay and I dont have to work every weekend and fuck, quitting my job felt like one of the most liberating feelings ever.

TL;DR: Fuck the airport in Amsterdam.
