TLDR: Shady company lies about why they fired me and my coworker
P1/2: For context, last year I started working for my father’s friend’s HVAC company. I was his only employee and things were going well until the company we were subcontracted by cut us off after we finished our last job. We were promised constant work but after that job we heard nothing for almost 3 months. My boss was going through a lot of personal family issues and sometimes wouldn’t show up (sometimes it was because they either didn’t pay him on time or they underpaid him for the hours he worked; his last check was short $1500). They ended up offering me a position, and after 3 months of little-to-no work, I needed a set schedule with a steady flow of income so I accepted. However, after a lot of drama, they never ended up rehiring my old boss. I later found out that they only hired me cause they thought it was “funny” to take this guy’s only employee while he was already struggling with his family and with being out of work for so long. If I knew this from the start, I absolutely wouldn’t have accepted their offer.
P2/2: After a little under a year of working with them, they fired both me and my coworker. We were the only employees at the job site they sent us to. They would send people to our job site to make sure we were there for some reason. Once, one of them said we weren’t there when we were, and 4 hours of overtime got taken out of our next paycheck. About $300 that we lost. Confronted my boss and just got gaslit and told that we were just trying to “steal” hours. After all this, I had a strong feeling they were looking for a reason to fire us. Mostly cause my boss has mentioned he pretends our job “doesn’t exist” most times. Last week, we were told that the work we’ve been doing for the last few days was pointless because our boss ordered the wrong supplies again and we’d have to redo everything. We sat in our cars the rest of the day and left early. We get a call to come to the office the next day. Boss said he and 3 other guys came to look for us the day before and couldn’t find us. They lied. Nobody came to the job site. I was in my car the entire time they said they were there. Nobody came or left the entire time. Just got told “that’s too bad” and got let go. Had to get this off my chest I’ve never worked for a company as shady as them. I really hope I get paid for the days i worked before i got fired.
I went back to work for my old boss and he’s doing a lot better. We got steady work and things are looking good again at least. They even called him and begged him to work for them again and he pretty much told them to f*ck themselves lmao
