Why can casual workers be treated so poorly? I was fired from my job today after my shift because I asked for a written contract before I began working (just so I had written down the pay rate, when I was to be payed etc. for my own insurance, I have been under-payed as a casual before). The location was new, and so my boss told me he had “lost his hard drive and files with a contract” and would get it to me “within the week”. Three weeks later I politely brought it up and he assured me it was on the way. When he fired me he noted that “none of the other employees (who have worked there for years) have contracts” and I was extremely rude for ‘harassing him’ when he had ‘so much to do’… I didn’t think it was an unreasonable request.
The other reason he stated for firing me was an “extremely rude message” where I had asked for details of where I was required to go for a shift he wanted me to take for training. I knew the general location but did not know the building parking information, entrance location or who I was meeting with. None of this was mentioned in any interview or shift prior. I felt it was reasonable to request these things after he had promised to message me the info weeks in advance (he didn’t. I requested it the day prior)
This is such bullshit. I am so sick of being treated this way by employers when all casual workers want is to be treated with respect.
