Fired for doing what I was told.

So, I got fired from my shitty construction job today for following orders. I work for a company that is horrifically mismanaged. It's owned by the son and daughter of the founder of the company. They have never done any sort of work out in the field and have no idea what goes on and routinely lose business since they don't know how to estimate jobs or do anything on time. So, on Tuesday of this week I came to work and was assigned a job to do. I was not given a time frame for completion of the project but that is unsurprising as they rarely communicate any relevant details. I proceed to go and spend 10 hours completing all the work and I head home like normal. Come in to work on Wednesday to be told that this job is a 2 day job and I'm scheduled to…

Come in to work on Wednesday to be told that this job is a 2 day job and I'm scheduled to be out there for another whole day. I explain to my direct supervisor that I have already finished the job and will have nothing to do for the day. He tells me that we don't have any other work so I should just go sit at the job site and earn my hours. This is also a fairly common occurrence because as I mentioned nobody knows how to estimate jobs. So, I head out to the job site and park my work truck and proceed to sit there for 10 WHOLE FUCKING HOURS. Then I go home and try not to punch holes in the walls out of sheer boredom.

Thursday morning rolls around and I come in to work to find out THIS IS A 3 DAY JOB. I explain again that I am finished and have nothing to do. I tell my supervisor and his supervisor that once again I have nothing to do and that I had already sat in my truck for a full day. My supervisor says to go back out, so I look at his direct supervisor and she says, “better get a good phone game!” and laughs.

So, being pretty pissed off I once again go park at the job site and proceed to sit and wait until I can go home. Apparently while sitting there someone called the number on the side of my truck to tell my company we were just sitting in our truck doing nothing.

Now the head of my division hears about it and drives out to find us sitting at the job site, just like we were told to. He's pissed off and starts accusing me of stealing from the company and how I MUST have known this wasn't ok to do. I told him that I was instructed by 2 levels of supervisors to do exactly what I was doing and that if he wanted an apology he wasn't going to get it. He tells me to take my crew back to the shop and go home for the day while he tries to figure out what I was told and who to blame.

The head of the division texts me at noon today to tell me I'm fired since he talked to my supervisors and they denied everything. They told him that I had said I had plenty of things to do for the day and all that shit, just fucking lying through thier teeth.

So now I'm going to take 6 months and work under the table while drawing unemployment from them. Since I haven't been written up or reprimanded a single time in my 3 years there, I know my UI claim will go through and they'll have to pay it. I have several contacts that are happy to pay me that way for my services as I have over a decade of experience and I plan on donating the UI money to a charity that represents people suing thier companies for wrongful termination and workplace violence.

I'm also fairly sure they have been wanting to fire me for awhile since I continue to discuss wages with other employees and constantly complain that they aren't paying the bonuses they promised us in our contracts. I also plan on reporting the fact that they knowingly hire undocumented individuals who use stolen social security numbers. Hopefully they get investigated or fined. I'm not against immigration or immigrants, but they have showed me thier stolen SS cards that have the wrong name and everything and told me they are being paid less than 50 cents over minimum wage to do construction.
