About 2 years ago I got hired by the worst company in the world. To give you an idea, they company name is something like “Bish Wetwork” and they are a dying telecommunications company. The main issue is that everyone hates working there and so all the developers leave before completing a year (in my year at the company, 80% of my team turned over)and the company has tried to compensate by bringing the cheapest k1 labor they can find resulting in a tangled and broken code base that requires someone with a lot of experience to handle. I unfortunately had a 1 year relocation assistance contract so I was stuck. Fast forward 1 year into my employment at Bish and covid hit. To give you context, the office I worked at was in the middle of Downtown Denver and they insisted that Bish would not start working from home. Instead they put up posters telling us to social distance and cover our mouths. This upset myself and others and the team chats started filling up with pissed off employees so they called a large meeting with the head of HR and all the employees at the downtown office. It was there in front of everyone that I asked him, “I like many other people here, take a train to work that also services Denver international airport, how am I supposed to stay safe on public transportation” I will never forget how thehead of HR responded: “At Bish we believe that public transportation is a personal choice and encourage employees to explore options like Uber instead”. Two weeks later I was laid off.
Other shitty things this company does:
I didn't find out until after I signed employment papers that the shitty healthcare they offered didn't start until 6 months after employment.
Most of the equipment they purchase is purchased from a company owned by the ceo's family that charges wwwwaaaayyyy more than market value for those items.
The official snow day policy is that in the event that an employee suspects the roads may be too hazardous to drive the next day, they are expected to rent a hotel at their own expense because snow is not an excusable reason to be late in fucking Colorado
The FCC announced when they opened up the 5g spectrum, they would give small companies first bid on that spectrum at a lower rate so Bish bought a small company and then aquired most of the available 5g spectrum and is currently still trying to weasal their way out of a massive FCC fine.
