I will leave out company details for obvious reasons, but I am dumbfounded that this actually happened. I just started this new job a month ago and obviously am still on probation and I was just fired yesterday for making small talk in a meeting. I work from home and while working I usually have a tv on to watch sports and had been watching the masters golf tournament on Thursday. So we have a department meeting yesterday and to make small talk I made a comment about a few of the big moments and about Tiger woods being back and all is well my co workers acknowledge and we move on into the meeting but my boss is silent the whole time which didn’t seem unusual I figured they were just waiting for conversation to subside to start the meeting.
Friday morning I am invited into a one on one call with my boss, and I am FIRED because apparently “it’s obvious I am not focused on work at home and watching sports during business hours”. This is insane to me, yes I am watching sports but that doesn’t mean I am not working at the same time. I am very angry and in disbelief that I now have to try and find a new job and explain to people why I was terminated a month into a job. I know I have very little recourse but I am so angry and needed to rant to you Reddit.
