In Canada, I'm a part-timer that has worked at a cafe for around 8 months now. However, I have received an email stating that I was fired because of “lack of communication with customers and staff” and how “these improvements were requested but were not corrected.”
For 8 months now, I have never received any type of warning, or a serious talk about my work ethic, and believed I was doing a great job. The manager kept on saying to talk with customers, but it was never serious, but instead a joking kind of way. And it is not like I do not talk; I interact with them more than about 50% of my co-workers.
Also, even after 3 months, I have not gotten a raise while other workers who has been much more newer have gotten a raise.
Although I'm a part-time, there were instances where I had to work 40 hours a week because we were short staff. However, after a few months, I got scheduled 1 day a week, where I got my notice of being fired at the same week.
Is this acceptable behaviour? What can I do about it?
