This literally just happened and I don't know what to do from here. I was at dinner with my family after having a good day out (it's Labor day weekend for crying out loud) when I got a text from my boss that he needs me to remote into work and take care of a problem for a client ASAP. I told him that I was out to dinner and cannot get to it now, and he came back and said that I am salaried and that means I need to be available 24/7. I never signed anything saying I need to work overtime or off hours, and this was never discussed before. I explained again that I normally do not mind helping our or taking care of issues outside of normal hours, but I cannot just up and leave dinner, and he told me to not bother coming back next week and that HR will contact me as to where to send my laptop.
So now I am freaking out. I have nothing saved, and no job. I can't even enjoy the holiday now and I'm going to stressed the fuck out. I also have to figure out insurance, etc.
I hate everything…
