I might be overreacting. I would like some input if possible.
I work in health insurance. I have almost 10yrs in the industry. My previous company, at the start of the pandemic let us work from home.
Then they got hit hard, and I was laid off.
It took me 3 months to find my current job. It’s essentially for a competitor.
They do many things different, so I’ve had to get used to that.
Also my previous employer was a smaller company, so we had some cool perks (out early on a Friday before a long weekend!)
This is a larger company. We are treated like robots.
There are “black out” months we can’t take vacation. I’m not even allowed to put in for a day off after October, it wouldn’t be approved.
If I were to call in, I HAVE to speak to my boss, who determines if I’m sick enough.
The problem is, she is unreachable until 8am so I have to wait to call (my shift starts at 8:30)
We were working from home every day, and then it was hybrid, then it was back to completely working from home.
I have a lung condition (Sarcoidosis) and since the pandemic have been extra careful to limit my exposure.
Working in the office made me extremely stressed, plus – I’m introverted and I dislike office chatter.
I wasn’t hired to be your friend, I do my job and go home.
I have 4 bosses. Yes, 4. I was told a month ago they would be hiring ANOTHER dept lead, so that will give me 5 total bosses. It’s frustrating.
They all say something different and seem to never be on the same page.
I have almost 2yrs with the company, and have never once had a review.
I had to specifically ask my boss for one, and was told by the end of February I would have one.
It didn’t happen.
So I have no performance review and no talk of any possible increase in pay.
I should note: for my experience in the industry, I am underpaid.
On Friday, I got an email that we will be returning to the office full time.
Also mentioned was: masks are optional.
This makes me very uncomfortable due to my condition.
Also, it takes me an hour to get to the office, on a good day.
The commute plus my overall health, plus the company’s unwillingness to speak to me about pay or performance – have made me question if I should put in my notice.
I like the job, and I’m very happy working from home, but I feel like I will become miserable going into the office everyday.
On Monday I plan to reach out to the big boss, and request if I can continue working from home.
I guess I’m looking to see if I’m overreacting? Or if you might think the same thing?
