Before February 2022, my friend told me that she was not paid for her secretarial job. She earned an equivalent of 600$USD a month, but in December 2021, she still had not received her payment for October, November, and December pay.
The reason was that the company did not have money to pay the employees.
She told me that it is common in Ukraine … It is common for employees not to be paid every month. I then asked why she would stay at a company which did not pay. She said that it is better to have a job than no job at all. Also, she was promised that she would receive it later.
Then the war happened in Ukraine in February 2022, and she never received her 5 months of pay. She now lives in Germany and is making way more than 600$. She does not care to receive the money either because she is thankful to be alive and have a job.
I am still wondering how many people actually go through this situation of being promised back pay. I know contractors/freelance workers go through this, but office workers???
