There have been a lot of posts and comments here about being strong armed into donating for the boss or a party, and employers outsourcing caring for employees in crowd funding without bothering themselves. There's one program I know that's awful about this and I wanted to know I'd there are others like it, with forced donations and nothing the company helps with but still takes all the credit for. And I'm sure there are so please share your rage against whatever similar bs you had to do with me so we may rage together.
For mine I picked a program from Cracker Barrel called Cracker Barrel Cares. Cracker Barrel Cares is a nice easy program that you can apply for to help get you through some personal tragedy or period of hardship. All you have to do as an employee is full out a bunch of forms, hope you get approved, and hope you don't need a ton of money or that a second disaster happens within a few months or years (to prevent funding abuse or drainage from one person) and you could be covered!
Of course this awesome program is listed all over to show how generous they are, including the website right now. And on that website they tell you how great it is the employees all donate to help each other. That's right, you tye underpaid employee get the choice to participate in mandatory donations or not work there. Cracker Barrel Cares was originally founded after one employee at a small Cracker Barrel store had an accident and everyone chipped in to help her. And from that beautiful gesture Cracker Barrel has now formed a massive donations box for all employees that they get to through over everything to show their kindness, and you get to donate to and likely never receive a dime of rather than just keeping your money and making off way better.
What really made me mad was I never had the option to draw even when I had my own issues, not sure if it wasn't severe enough or what because it's been so long. But even in orientation when it was about 20 minutes of discussion on the program and how great it was Cracker Barrel was like a family taking care of each other just to gloss over how they don't out anything into it. So after that memory got pulled to the surface I've been wondering what kind of “for the employees” programs there are that companies use to force us into becoming their free pr, with nothing actually for hs ?
