Forced to take PTO while sick while trying to save it.

I recently was forced to take PTO while sick. 2 days worth. I could always use the money but didn’t necessarily need it. My place of employment forced me to use 16 hours of payed time off instead of unpaid time off. Without informing me until I saw the approved hours of payroll (No, not mentioned in employee handbook). I JUST last week received my PTO after being hired and reaching their period to receive PTO. They just forced me to use 16 hours of PTO that I would rather be unpaid for so I can use it for a week and a few days to see family over the holidays. I’m not anywhere near a PTO rollover. I don’t even have much of a PTO allowance yet (32 hours this year). It’s probably legal since PTO is a benefit, but what are your thoughts?
