For fifteen years I have been forced to maintain and mow and trim and clean the land of a real estate investment company or I will go to JAIL. I got fed up and stopped cleaning the land after party house kids and then drug addicts dumped trash and someone abandoned a truck that they could not sell onto the land. I got tickets and now I am taking this to court.
Cobb County is doing this to multiple people because they cannot serve process on hedge funds, REITs, and investment companies. So they force the neighbors to keep those properties up or those neighbors will GO TO JAIL. I have two neighbors on my street that were required to maintain a whole house for an investor. They got fed up and eventually, after a court battle, the house was torn down. The neighbors have been harassed into cleaning the now-empty land.
The County says to a reporter:
“The county says even though the adjacent property is not hers, she is legally responsible for making sure the grass is trimmed in front of that property.”
The Thirteenth Amendment (against slavery) states:
“Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”
Now, read what is happening to me:
I am literally being required to work the land of a house flipping company for no pay under threat of jail time and fines.
