Former employer wants to switch from emails to phone calls

I’ve been emailing my former employer for months in regards to overpayments they made to me. I met with a lawyer to discuss my options, and after that, I reached an agreement with my former employer that I only had to repay the net I received rather than the gross they originally wanted. I thought the issue was resolved, but their math is incorrect. They’re asking for more than the net. I’ve corrected them on it, and now they’re suddenly asking to speak on the phone rather than continuing to communicate via email as we’ve been doing. There’s no reason for this, right? I should just tell them I’d rather we continue communicating via email? I feel like I need to have documentation of everything.
