A very good friend of mine just went back to work from paternity leave. He is middle-upper management for a large company in NYC that everyone would recognize. His wife took 3 months off when their daughter was born, then he took 3 months off. He had been working from home probably 80% of the time since covid started, and apparently they expected him to not need to take leave since he was mostly home anyway. But the thing was: his company “prides themselves” on their generous maternity/paternity policy. In fact, he had to have 5 different interviews (well 4 interviews, but one was with 2 executives) to get this job, and in each one the interviewer bragged about their policy. Then he goes back to the office for the first time and his boss pulls him aside and let’s him know taking that full leave was “not a good look”. Poor guy is furious and is questioning his future with what he thought was a really good company.
