Growing up poor, kids are always told,”Be better. Only the best make it to the top,” and many poor kids who want to succeed believe that. After doing all the things to better one's self: acquiring useful skills, education, and experience, isn't it a kick in the head to get to a higher class and realize that all the upper-middle-class & rich kids had to do was show up? They aren't better, half of them don't even know their asshole from their elbow, yet they start higher because of their parents' money and connections. Then, they look down upon you for having different experiences or for going to the affordable school rather than the top 10 you couldn't afford. It's like climbing a mountain starting at the bottom, managing to toil and struggle until you get to the top, then the assholes at the top who helicoptered in laugh at you for taking so long and wonder why you're exhausted.
Anyone else feeling exhausted from the long, lonesome hike of upward socioeconomic mobility?
BTW, this is antiwork because by the “top” for the poor kid I mean middle management. Where you will be more capable than most of your bosses, paid significantly less than the top 10 grad with no experience who just started, and everyone tells you to “manage up” to ensure the can't-manage-their-way-out-of-a-paper-bag boss looks good. When the boss says, “Our vision is revenue,” you know you are in for an abysmal time.
