I moved to a new city at the end of the first COVID summer and struggled to find gainful employment for over a year, until a friend I have in the area got me a job at the factory he works at. Union job, 4 days on 4 days off, $20/hr, rotating shifts, all that. Seemed like I finally found the “forever” gig that I've been looking for.
Nope. I got laid off after two months because of downstream COVID issues in China. I'll admit, I only halfassedly looked for work during the three months I was unemployed. But they brought us back a few weeks ago and not only have I been “demoted” to sanitation(cleaning two locker rooms and three break rooms for 12 hours), but there's already lots of talk about another round of layoffs.
So I spent this week cashing in my sick days and my one floating holiday to apply to jobs in other fields. Fuck it I might start a business and start making porn too, while I'm here.
