I applied for a graduate job and they told me they were 'delighted' to invite me to the next stage of the application process, which was a full day assessment. 9:30 to 16:00!
There were 2 assessment days offered to me, but I was only given 1 day notice of them. I was working 8:00 to 16:30 the whole week and was unable to take any time off, especially not with this little notice.
It is extremely unfair to not provide adequate notice of when assessments will take place, or for any potential recruits to not get the opportunity to be assessed due to previous commitments, work or otherwise!
I asked if there was any opportunity for me to be assessed this week, and after chasing them up, I was told no. All the assessment days had been booked.
A similar situation occurred ages ago, again I was applying to a graduate job and received an email arranging an interview that same day. Absolutely no respect for potential employees and any plans they may have.
The audacity, hypocrisy and classism of this sort of practice is absolutely abhorrent. Fuck jobs that do this! Why should we be on call, with the rest of our lives on standby, including current jobs, just for the possibility of getting some shitty 9 to 5.
