Full-time is not full-time

Had an interview for a full-time salaried position (9-5:30 – 37.5 hours) and was told “if you're expecting to leave at 5:30 then this job isn't for you.” Seriously?? Fuck you. How's about you advertise the real fucking hours required for the role then? Like, I get it, there's projects and deadlines and sometimes you'll need to work past your designated hours to get shit done. I have absolutely no issue with that. But IMO, this should be an exception or during crunch time, not the norm when offering a full-time role. You're advertising a 37.5 hours a week position, and I'd be signing a contract for a 37.5 hours a week position. So if you're telling me that I'll be expected to work more than that on a regular basis, what I'm hearing is that you are expecting me to also to do additional labour for free. My issue…

My issue isn't so much that the role would require more hours, my issue is that they're advertising and paying for X amount of hours when the reality is it's Y amount of hours.

Try being fucking honest or upfront about it. Course they won't because they don't want to put-off talent for applying by stating the role is Y hours a week. You'd need the entire industry to do it otherwise people will think they can get a similar role for less (read: normal full-time) hours. The company would probably have to pay more as well, else the hours to money ratio decreases and again will make them seem less appealing…

Well fucking deal with it. Sort your resources out so the job is actually accurate to what you're offering, or advertise accurately about the role and compensation.

Fuck's sake.
