Hi all. So a strange scenario has occurred. I am/was the general manager of a very small automobile service and sales business which consists of the owner, myself and 2 other employees. The owner has been on paternity leave for the last 4 months and said he'd be returning on Sept 2nd. He stopped into the office last week and I told him I was going to quit and gave him 3 weeks notice effective on September 2nd. (I have no immediate plans or another job because my wife got a huge promotion and I effectively do not really have to work, we've got some breathing room and I figured I would do home projects for the next several months then start looking for something easy just to have some income).
I went into work today and the owner was there, he was not supposed to be back until Sept 2nd. He called me into his office and said he's been looking to shut the doors to the business effective after I leave on September 2nd because he's not interested in owning the place anymore, but said that he looked at the finances this morning and since the shop has been running extremely slow (loosing money) has decided to close it today with no notice.
Long story short, I expected another 2 weeks worth of income but instead I am now home. Is is possible to file for unemployment even though I gave my notice? I am in Maine if that matters.
