Hey everyone. I am in quite a pickle here. I’ve been at my job for a number of years now. I am a bus driver and I honestly really enjoy it most days. I only work 28 hours a week, but I make a little over 24 an hour, so overall I am making more in a week than my previous job
I’ve had the goal of moving up, and I applied for the dispatcher position. Thing is, it only pays 20 an hour. I asked why and the only thing I got was “well you’re gaurenteed 40 hours and benefits!”
Well, I can’t pay my rent with dental insurance. So money is the reason I’m there. Here’s the thing, I did the math, and I would only be making 120 dollars more a week, before taxes.
Even better, it’s so short staffed that I would be driving a route still. So 28 hours of my week I’m doing what I do now, and somehow in the remaining 12 hours, do the work that is meant for a 40 hour position.
Am I being too pessimistic here or should I just pass on the promotion? I feel like I’m getting screwed.
