Hey all, long time lurker, first time poster. And I think I’m ready to share my story.
I work in the insurance industry and have been at my current agency for almost 3yrs now. I personally have loved working hear and I don’t have anything against corporate. No, my issues started about the beginning of February this year with our local agency and management.
I’d like to preface this with, I adore our operations manager, “R,” so it was concerning to me when she calls me out of the blue to gauge my emotional well-being. Alarm bells started going off because, I’m fine. Perfectly happy. She then explains that it was brought to managements attention that I was dissatisfied with my job and had been putting out applications to other agency’s and have interviews lined up. Color me shocked because this was the first I heard that I was leaving. She said that she didn’t think I was, because I’ve always kept her in the loop if I deal with any personal changes or if I’m going to be late, etc. I always keep her informed. Long story short, she told me to be careful about what I say to coworkers because someone in the agency liked to take what you tell them, twist it completely sideways and then run to upper management with an exaggerated story. She was comfortable telling me this because she had one foot out the door already.
I started looking for a new job after that. I wasn’t in a hurry because I thought it had all blown over. Ooooh boy was I wrong!
Three weeks ago, I had a medical crisis at the office that put me in the ER. I was barely conscious, could not make decisions and I hardly remember most of that day. My friend and coworker, is a licensed EMT in our state, and stepped in to assist until I could be taken to the hospital. One of the problematic managers said I was faking it because I was tired and didn’t want to work. In one moment of being lucid in the hospital, I posted the most pathetic photos of myself, bloody and hooked up to IV’s.
The very next day the problematic manager, “H” calls her up, fusses her out, and tells her that the one hour she spent assisting me cost the company thousands. She said that it distracted the other office locations (there is no way any of them could have known unless H told them), and that she was being written up. A week after that my friend was out sick for two days. They fired her on day two of being out. Told her the reason was confidential, but concerning enough to let her go.
Y’all, I. Lost. My. Shit.
They don’t know I’m leaving yet. I’ve had the new job lined up for almost 2 weeks now, but the next intake-group start date isn’t until 5/16. I’ll be making $13 more than what I make now with benefits that start immediately upon training completion. I’ve decided I’m not going to give them two weeks. They are in for a nasty shock when I tell them I’m not coming back on my last day.
I’ve never been a vindictive person, but I look forward to the shit show this will cause in the office with management. They’re getting what they deserve.
