My work was to create digital resources for schools. The work had to be a mix of tests, worksheets, flashcards, etc.
My contract terms were to go into the office for 8 hours to complete work which could not leave the premises. My boss said that she had 15 items a week, and I had to help her with whatever I could, but it had to be done there. One item takes around 30 mins -1 1/2 hours. Basically, I could do 13/15 items in 8 hours a week. I was paid monthly as well.
At first, everything was fine. My boss saw that I made exceptional resources and I sat next to her, so I was never on my phone or slacking off. I only showed up to work two days of the week to do my 8 hours, so I was there for four hours each day.
One day, I must have annoyed her because she was stressed out, so when I clocked out and told her, “See you next week!” She told me to show her all of the 15 items. I told her that the 2 which never get completed each week are left for her. She denied me to leave. I had to go to another job, so I told her that she had no right to force me to complete those last two items. She was really angry and said that she would cut my pay. I then told her, “Will you pay me extra for working more than 8 hours?” She said, “No you are paid for 8 hours!” Exactly !!! I worked 8 hours. She then said, “You are meant to complete all 15 items before the 8 hours. If you do not finish them before 8 hours, you need to work off the clock until they are completed!” I told her to find that contract and I will be happy to do so, but for now I have to leave.
The next week she said the same words, so I proposed to her that I will complete everything, but the quality will be bad and if she has any problems, she could fix them herself. I got fired that week, and she did not want to pay. Luckily, I explained to her boss about the contract terms and I won.
Seriously, WTF? Why allow me to do something for so long and then months later, you flip a switch? Not my problem that you are too busy. Also, I was just a contractual partner.
Anyone who had similar contract problems meaning that you had to do more work than previously agreed?
