She’s an hourly receptionist for a veterinary office at Petco. The single veterinarian at this office is salary. The vet abuses their covid policy and calls in sick 2 – 3 times per month for the past 2 years. Without the vet, they can’t operate so they just don’t open for the day and reschedule all of their appointments. They offer half-days so staff can call and reschedule everyone, and then force all staff to consume PTO or vacation pay to cover the rest of that days shift, or simply go unpaid for the remainder, or entire day. The vet’s pay is unchanged because he is on salary and does not get sick leave or PTO.
Due to this, my girlfriend has consumed all of her sick leave and PTO funding these shifts she is forced to take off every time he doesn’t feel like going to work. When the vet continued to call in, the manager told her she will get paid regardless due to it being covid related. Well my gf just got covid today, and surprise surprise, that pay the company was so generously giving her was her own CA-mandated covid relief, and now she was told she has 0 hours left to cover herself while she is quarantining.
We are 6 months pregnant and she can’t leave without forfeiting benefits. It’s just so stressful.
