I’m a canvassar for human rights and up until now this is the best job I’ve had. It’s a new office so I moved up really fast with no prior canvassing experience, but I have a lot of knowledge in social justice issues as that’s what my future career is centered around. I was told with the manager position I wouldn’t have to be on the street 5 days a week, yet as soon as I accepted the job, that’s exactly what they started making me do. My understanding was that I would have “admin days”, aka days where I work on info on the organization for our team. All my “managerial duties” that I was doing up until a month ago when I accepted the job have been stripped from me. I was previously working on informational trainings, handouts, and just things that would make our life as canvassars easier on the street. Now I can’t do any of it. I asked for an extra 30 minutes to go print out flyers, and was told no. 30 extra minutes. When I thought I’d be having at least 1-2 days of the week to do this stuff.
I’m getting manager pay still, but even when I expressed my concern with having to canvas 5 days a week still, I was ignored. This is day 4 of being ignored by all of the higher ups. I’m looking for a second job now because if they can’t even value me or my work, why work at all? I stopped putting in any effort. I plan on getting a second job and dropping down to part time here since I leave in a few months to another state.
It’s just so confusing to me. My last job was the opposite – they gave me all the managerial responsibility and a new title, but no higher pay. This time, I have the title and higher pay, but not doing anything I actually want to. Like what the fuck?
