I specifically looked up “Worker Reviews” to find a place where workers can honestly talk about any issues they have with a company. Seemed like a small but important way for workers to have power against their bosses: If a company treats its workers like shit, they can review bomb them and deny them future employees.
What I found was glassdoor. It honestly seemed good in the beginning: It immediately let me look up a place of work, so I chose to look up where I work out of curiosity and then let me check its reviews. I read about 2 reviews, then it blocked me from all content. It asked me to log in with Google, Facebook, or Apple. So they're harvesting the data. Not a good sign for a place that should be serving workers. I sign in anyways, using Google because I don't want to go through the effort of creating an Account from scratch, just as they don't want me to, then go to read the reviews. Still blocked. I must write my own review first. My narc alarm bells are going off now. I know for a fact this was used by big companies to track down dissatisfied workers. They can buy your entire Google profile, and included is your review and enough pointers to connect the profile back to your identity ( [Read this if you want a heart attack](https://techcrunch.com/2019/07/24/researchers-spotlight-the-lie-of-anonymous-data/?guccounter=1&guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&guce_referrer_sig=AQAAAKNuBoOazoUpzEgyoGbhbmx6dHcSn9Yojm3eH1A_yF-uqYbwKHIkkFNDajce2SOrJgKSc7Q9AulDD6aKplMW3Gj6w3kQ4EnsOMDr_vICdONcKMXt7AJejt3Mm0U68wendJP6IBqkBcYjNuaEEeovX_RHsVK0bXZRJYSu8HdSTRfq) )
This alone would be enough to make me hate glassdoor. But now that I had logged in, the site had changed. It gave me a button to “Set up” a boss-account. I was given job offers. It told me the benefits of becoming a member. Only now was the true nature of glassdoor revealed to me: It's long stopped being a worker review site, and had long become a job hunting site, run by bosses. It didn't surprise me to hear that they deleted negative reviews, not one bit.
The whole experience has really left a nasty taste in my mouth. Someone should really go make that Worker Review site, but with true Anonymity, no data harvesting, and an attitude of hostility towards bosses.
