Got a call from a recruiter who indirectly told me to lower my salary expectations for my experience

A bit of context: a colleague mentioned me to a mate who works at a recruitment agency who was happy to refer me to his colleagues (said friend of my colleague is not a recruitment agent himself, that’s why). I didn’t get a good vibe on our first call, her tone was unfriendly, she sounded unwilling to do her job, and when she asked me my pay expectations, I got told to aim lower because my work experience ain’t nothing to write home about (her sentiments in her tone). This is in contrast with the recruitment agent I spoke to yesterday who was kind, friendly, and even fought for higher pay on my behalf. As much as I like my colleague and appreciate his mate’s help, I can’t see myself working with this lady if her demeanour carries through to our meeting on Monday. I need someone to bat for…

I need someone to bat for me and I understand her clients are the companies themselves, but she also needs to source candidates and if she isn’t coming through with good people, she won’t be getting her cut either.

I’m really tired of the condescending attitude in recruitment. We shouldn’t have to be treated so poorly when job hunting and interviewing.
