Took a job as a teacher and now I’m having doubts.
So I just moved to a new city about a month ago. I applied for a job as a history teacher at a high school that’s a 2 hour drive commute everyday. One hour there one hour back home. They decided to give me the job and I went through a drug test and background check and was cleared. Initially I was supposed to start on Monday but the night before I had a panic attack about school shootings in America and made up an excuse to start on Wednesday instead and the assistant principal sounded mildly annoyed by saying “we had prepared for you to start on Monday but okay”.
Now I’m having doubts about this job because I don’t feel safe working at a public school, I don’t like having to drive 2 hours everyday to and from work and I’ve never worked at a large public school before. I know if I call them and say I’m not going to start I probably will have blackballed myself so I’m just not sure what to do. I feel like I’m in a pressure cooker situation here.
