I have a lot of respect and gratitude for this community so I thought to reach out about my situation. Advice would be deeply appreciated!
In November of 2021, I got a lawyer to file a sexual harassment report against my former supervisor.
I had to force resign from a job I genuinely enjoyed (working at a recreational cannabis club in NYC) because my supervisor, “Jerry”, kept asking me out on dates and made sexual comments on my body.
What made me finally get the fire under my ass to make a report was when a 21 year old female coworker told me he was also sexually harassing her.
So when I reported this to the owner it was met with a lot of “I’m going to do something about this! I’m so sorry this happened to you! All of this is confidential. I’m getting a sexual harassment training kit as we speak!” LIES. The owner and the supervisor are super close friends so nothing happened because it was Jerry’s word against mine. Working there started getting unbearable because of this and I had no choice but to leave.
My former supervisor wasn’t even the only one asking me out and making sexual comments – I told this to the lawyer and he said something along the lines of “that’s the workplace culture and it’s probably going to keep happening to other young women if the owners keep hiring their own friends”.
The lawyer was helpful at first but now he hasn’t responded to my last email since January… He was working on getting some sort of settlement for me but it’s just been silent. I don’t really know how this sort of stuff works…What should I do? Wait? Should I reach out to the lawyer one more time? Should I find a new one? Or just give up and move on?
I’ve been struggling on finding a new job now and my mental health got really fucked from that experience. I hate that so many work environments are cruel like this.
