Today I paid $50 for a beer and burger at a shitty beer garden. Most people I know in DC barely get by with almost no savings yet we always tip 20% even if the service or food is horrible because feeling bad for the waiting staff.
When my check arrived I asked him if tip included bc on the menu it says fare wage fee of 15% included, this dude without no shame try to lecture me on how to tip extra 20 bc base tip of 15% barely covers the $15 minimum wage in DC, that’s all good and fine but it’s not okay to use this to shame people I bet that waiter makes more than I do yet pulls up his tablet device (toast I think) and suggestion for extra tips are 20–22-25 % , and he suggests 20% would be standard, and on the bench there is bunch of people looking at us thinking I am being cheap or something. I proceed, but fuck this type of people , no longer paying extra tip when someone turns a screen to me
