Some backstory. I worked for a rehab where there was very little support for counselors and leadership was attempting to get us to work outside the scope of our licenses. I am an LCDC-I trying to get my counseling hours. It wasn’t until I received the job offer and started working there that they told me they couldn’t approve my hours towards my license so that was fun.
Some other info to know is that I am autistic with bipolar disorder and made that disclosure to leadership thinking it would help them understand why I do things weird sometimes. It did not help.
Now on to the good stuff. I (24m) wore a kilt to work originally because it is culturally significant to my family and me with approval from hr. The acting ceo didn’t like that so the approval was revoked and I was told to stick to the dress code so I did and wore a dress because it was part of the dress code and I was pissed off. I was sent home that day by the acting ceo and the next day at 4 am got a text from my boss to meet with hr at 8 where they told me that due to continued dress code violations and what amounted to neglecting my clients they were letting me go during my 90 day probationary period. I was one of the only ones named on satisfaction surveys that clients did saying that I made their experience at rehab better because I listened to them.
I applied for unemployment and told twc that I was fired for dress code violations and the company never responded to them. I received this text from hr and don’t know how to respond to it. TWC rolled that I was not fired due to gross negligence and awarded me unemployment. I already got another job within days of being fired though so I don’t need the unemployment. This job allows me to wear what I want, is more supportive, and pays so much better.
My question is how do I respond to this text? I probably shouldn’t but I really want to if just to find out what exactly they’re saying they fired me for. My brother thinks I should bring a wrongful termination suit against them which I don’t find viable and don’t want to mess with it. I just want to move on from that horrible company and live my life.
