I work, well worked, at subway from the end of January until Today. I worked the last six days straight but knew my cousin wanted to go to our grandparents anniversary party.
I offered to cover his shift so he could go. I drive normally as I would, getting there before my shift even starts. I walk In and see L and I walk over to clock in. L says, “oh I'm doing something go to the back”. I open the door and my Boss S tells me to come to the back. I ask her what's wrong and she blatantly said, “I'm terminating your employment”. Shocked, I asked why. She said that “well, you're just not a good fit, and stuff has just been happening lately, so we have to let you go”. She hands me a check for my unpaid time. She said she paid me for two hours for today. I said “ok, thank you for the opportunity” and left. I got to my car and called my grandma crying. She asked why I got fired and I told her what my boss said. She told me to come home and talk about it. I then called my Dad and explained the situation to him. I no longer live with my parents but instead my grandparents, and I'm not on great terms with my parents. He told me it just happens but I explained the Ludacrisy of how the situation played out. He told me not to sweat it and to keep looking for a job. I went home and talked to my grandparents. I texted my cousin that I covered for and also the other cousin who also worked there what happened, and they both agreed that it wasn't fair.
So, I want to explain what bothers me so much. For starters I would always ask her if what I was doing right or wrong, asking if I was doing well. She said yes, all the time. She had a habit of being harsh on me about mistakes, and I went home wanting to quit everyday, but by golly AAA has to have 233 bucks for a car I can barely drive due to the gas prices. One day I worked for 6 hours straight not getting to take a single break. She was on my ass the whole time, pointing out every single mistake I had made loud enough for the customers to hear. She apologized the next day but then tried to turn it around on me saying she needs me to do what she wants. I told her I always do without hesitation, and I cant do something If I don't know what I need to do. I told her that if she has criticism for me not to do it Infront of the customers. She agreed and still had problems after though not as bad.
I am arguably the most flexible of all employees, so on top of already working a lot while being a full-time student, I was actively multiple times a week covering shifts for other people. Hell I had to stay till 11 PM last Friday because the bosses son called out for being sick (I came in with a bad UTI being barely able to stand for a week straight a few weeks ago and still managed). I instead of working 12-5 worked from 1:30 to 9:30 but ended up staying till 11 to make sure everything was good. I covered shifts all the fucking time, pretty much every one. Even when I was bent out exhausted I still covered for people.
Recently people had done the wrong things while closing so she made a list of everything that needed to be done. But now instead of getting ahead, you had to do specific things at specific times, and you couldn't jump ahead. Thats what happened and why Friday night went so long. We had the problem again last night. We were right on track with the list, but that's the thing, it didn't evenly space out tasks, so most of it was after close at 9 PM. Weve had problems recently with people coming in with whole lists longer than the bible 10 minutes before closing. There's a lot we cannot do because of that, and it cuts into our closing list time. I've tried to point this out multiple times. It says at 8PM you have to wipe out the toaster oven. We can't turn it off until 9, and we have to wait another 30 minutes to cool off. N who was my coworker that day had gotten a warning about closing a few days earlier. He and my cousin messed somethings up at closing. The system goes that you get one warning, and then 3 strikes. After 3 strikes you get terminated. I didn't even get a warning. I was fired on the spot. They could've just called to fire me and just sent my check home with one of my cousins and to mail it to me. I am completely just shocked. This came out of nowhere. No warning. No consideration.
So, I am now unemployed. Sucks really, Subway just lost its hottest employee B).
