Got fired on my 4th day of work because I wouldn’t lie to people

I was hired for a manager trainee position. In my interviews I was told this was not a sales job. We were assigned the exit doors at Sam’s clubs and Walmart where we would try and guilt trip people into doing monthly donations to charity. There were a lot of unethical practices. For example, I saw one person ask someone to donate and they said they could do $1 by card. After that, they took the card and charged a $25 donation. They than came up to me after and said, “I totally finessed that guy he thought he was only donating $1 and I got him for $25”. There were a lot of unethical practices. For example, I saw one person ask someone to donate and they said they could do $1 by card. After that, they took the card and charged a $25 donation. They than came up to me after and said, “I totally finessed that guy he thought he was only donating $1 and I got him for $25”.

On top of this they would take advantage of people who didn’t speak English by taking their credit cards, and signing them up for monthly donations, but wouldn’t explain to them they would be charged every month in a way they would understand. I talked with one woman who didn’t speak English, and after asking her for a monthly donation, and explaining she would be charged on an ongoing basis, she opted to do a one time donation. At the end of my shift I was told I should have just asked for her card, and committed her to monthly donation on an on-going basis.

Afterwards I was fired on my 4th day of work. I’ve worked at least 8 jobs in my life and have never been terminated. At the onset, I was also told I would be working 40 hrs a week, but after 4 days, I’d only worked (1) 8 hour day, with the remainder being 1/2 days. Furthermore, they would make small lies to drive up impulse. For example, they would say, “It’s our last day here” at locations when it would be the first day. Or the most common, “most people do monthly donations of $1 a day,” which was not true. Lastly, you were required to dress business professional and drive to their Lombard office location, where an hour later, you’d change into a t-shirt promoting the charity you were soliciting donations to, and drive to your assigned location.
In conclusion this place only MAYBE has a great opportunity for someone if you’re someone who doesn’t mind driving to random locations in your car, standing outside random discount stores guilt tripping and lying to people.
