If you are desperate to know the chapter and verse then it'll be on my recent posts but anyway here's what happened in the end.
I turned up for my induction but I wasnt expected, red flag but I was agency so I didn't think too much of it.
Went through 5 hours of boring group presentations and didn't have anything about what the job was other than production team. That's all the agency told me, the rest was unknown.
Then I got sent to a department and told to shadow this guy on a machine. Did that for the rest of the day but wasnt allowed to actively participate in anything as I wasn't qualified or trained. Apparently I just needed to take in how they operate. This was ok for 4 hours, little boring but I was getting to know this guy and had a bit of a laugh. What I did notice is he did very little work. I quizzed him on this and apparently they're pretty quiet so he just tries to look busy. Another red flag because I was told they were busy hence me and 20 odd others joining.
Next day comes and I see the manager, ask what I should do today. Get told to shadow again which wasn't shadowing as I'm not allowed to touch anything. So I just sit watching this guy do bits of work for 9 hours. People walk past, obviously finding the fact I'm doing literally nothing shocking. The guy I'm working with speaks to a supervisor to see what's the issue as there's plenty of equipment I can use from past training. He gets told they don't need anyone on these machines and to just wait. Over the course of the few days I check with various managers approximately 10 times and nobody had any idea. I'm told we don't really need anyone here but management above says you're here so just sit there and wait.
By this point I've worked almost 30 hours and just sat watching a guy work for maybe 1 hour each day. The rest of the time he's disappeared going on walk rounds of the full site as he tries to look busy so I'm just left sat on my own, staring and a machine all day long. After a while I went on my phone and sure enough a manager walks past and sees. Then the guy comes back and tells me they don't like me on my phone. At this point I started getting annoyed because I was losing the will to live. To be fair this guy was great, kept trying to get me some answers and agreed that what they're doing is bullshit. He tells me about how shit the company is and why he wants to leave.
Next day I do until lunch and phone my agency to explain. They say they're speaking with HR to resolve this and just get paid to do nothing. I've now started getting agitated from the lack of stimulation. I sneak my earphones in and try and zone out for a while which worked until I got a phone call which cut out my music. Had to go outside to take it. Then I get outside into the carpark and take this call. Turns out it wasn't my agent. 5 minutes later I'm then trying to get back inside the building and I can't because I don't have a fob. So I'm stood like a clown waiting for someone to enter or exit. After 15 minutes of standing in the cold I'd had enough. Went to reception and handed in my stuff, explained to the receptionist my issue and left. Never heard back from my agent but I did send a follow up email and I do expect to be paid for my bullshit week.
Honestly this is corporate shite at its finest. Nobody communicates and this is the result. Worst of all, I'd turned down other work to go to this multinational giant. Never again
