Got hired recently..

Making 18$ an hour, a bit after my post college job didn’t work out. I consider this to be good pay for the type of job I’m doing and my family and friends keep being surprised and telling me that 18$ an hour is great and so lucky. While they’re right, it just hit me that if I had a kid or something like that it wouldn’t even be close to enough money. And it’s a good bit above minimum wage. Why should I be considered lucky to have a job that you can’t realistically survive on? I’m not new to this frustration as I’m sure none of you are but just an annoying reminder that I wouldn’t have noticed otherwise.
