So generally speaking I’m not anti-work. More work-indifferent. I like my job, it pays fine, my coworkers are okay. Generally speaking I’m the most productive of my co-workers (not a brag and I don’t try hard to be I just don’t have some of the same stresses/impacts and I’ve been in my job longer). Normally I get my work done on time and rarely make mistakes. So I never take over time. Like maybe once ever.
Today I made a mistake. Now it wasn’t a huge one but it is one that’s technically above my pay grade to fix. I let my manager know and they suggest how I need to fix it. I’ve only fixed it once before so it takes me a while to fix it. After that I finish the rest of my tasks and clock out.
Only to receive a message telling me I’m promoting a toxic work environment by working overtime (again I NEVER work overtime because I finish on time) . How I should never do overtime without prior approval (kind of thought the message telling me to fix it was the understanding that I’d be doing overtime given it was sent after work hours).
It just made me feel shit. Which is annoying because I was actually happy to have fixed my mistake before. Now it’s been a while since I felt like this but now I remember why I felt anti-work everything you do is a mistake to these people. Don’t work hard enough, get shit for it. Work too hard, get shit for it. Work just in the middle, when you have a reputation for being productive, get shit for it.
