Got laid off due to modified work today

I work for a local water delivery company that's well known around my area. I broke my little finger 2 weeks ago and have been riding it out delivering water against my better judgement and hadn't sought treatment fearing the worst. Light duty isn't unheard of around the yard and pay still continues through light duty. I deliver to a hospital that I am also an insurance holder at, so I decided to ask the orthopedics section if they thought my finger was broken. Boom, instant response, x ray within 3 minutes, yup its broken. Splinted and unable to move my hand, it's tough to move water. Got a work note with modified duty and let my boss know right away. My boss says come back immediately, and one of my best friends, who's also a co- worker calls me and asks if I need help finishing the day. I called my boss, he says it's ok to finish the day.

I get through my deliveries with help from a friend and head back to the yard. I finish my day to completion and get called into the office. I hand over the work status note and get told I'm not needed for the month that my work note says I need to be on modified duty.

This industry is littered with injuries day in and day out. I've dedicated 3 years to this place and the first instance of injury is met with take an unpaid leave of absence and it's not their problem.

Inflation blows, cost of living is extremely high, and I've got bills I can't pay now. 2 kids, mortgage, property tax supplement for an issue with my initial mortgage company all due by the end of the month. Just because I broke my pinky in my personal time.

I hate this system, I hate these corporations. I hate these ladder climbing bastards that make the employee a pawn in the grand scheme of profit. Go to hell, you profiteering, no empathy- having pieces of shit. We have lives, we contribute to the work force, we do what you ask, until the situation no longer suits your needs for the bottom line.
