For context, I work at a nursing home in maintenance. Back in early November, I was promoted to boiler technician and was supposed to be making $19/hr. I accepted the Job and was adamant about signing paperwork for my raise.
Due to some shit Luck, I broke my foot and was out of work for a month. Long story short, I came back Early December, the guy training me left, so I was told Im working 2nd shift for 16.50 because I didn't sign anything.
Fast forward a few weeks and I have to call my boss about my raise, I said I feel like I earned it and Im back, healthy, and ready to learn. A couple weeks goes by and I dont hear anything, I talk to Him about it and he says one of the Suit's (Higher up) had to think about it.
Fast-forward to February 16th and Im giving my supervisor my 2weeks notice, Because I found a job with better hours/pay. The only thing my boss says about it, is that I have to sign it.
Jump to present day and my supervisor tells me that my boss wants me too call him, Im mad because I was alone with him in his office, so Im not sure why he didnt just talk to me about this then. So I call my boss, he asks what I wanted for a raise, I say 19, he says “I dont think I can swing that, but let me make some calls” we hang up and he calls me right back, “Hey you Would get first shift too” I tell him I appreciate that, but Im going to take the new Job his response was “Alright then take it”
Now, Im friends with my supervisor, and I told him, if he offered me this a few days after I put in my 2 weeks, I wouldve taken it, But he offered it to me 2 days before I leave. Im also pretty sure he only offered it to me because were about to be down 3 guy's and nobody can cover second shift, and watch the boiler's.
I think what I did was right, and I truthfully dont want to leave, I live 10min away from my job, I like the work I do and the people I work with, But the hours suck 3pm-11pm and 12hr weekends, and the pay isnt great.
Maybe this is me being a stubborn 20y/o but I felt screwed and I feel like I exhausted all my options. Moral of the story is know what your worth.
